Apples Thurs June 5th

Hi Apples,

As of today, we have only THREE CLASSES!
Our last class will be a PRESENTATION class (June 18th)
IF you are not done, you will come in on MAKE UP Day (June 20th)




1. PHOTOGRAPHY GROUP
    GOAL: To learn photography and editing techniques,
                  post at least three finished photos for evaluation in ePortfolio
                 and choose ONE to print for yourself.
  • ePortfolio Project Page should have:
    • Project Title
    • Several of YOUR "raw" Photos with comments (what I tried)
    • Something your learning about Photography (Alaya's Powerpoint)
    • Criteria for a great photo
  • Today you will EDIT photos:
    • cropping
    • colour levels and curves
    • other
  • People Photography Challenge
    • Take a photo that really shows their personality and your creativity as a photographer
2. VIDEOGRAPHY
    GOAL: To learn how to make a unique brief video (trailer) and practice great editing skills

    • Inspiration Video
    • Criteria for a great video and what YOU want to focus on
  • Today you will be filming:

Hi Apples,

For the first 30 minutes, we'll be preparing for our ePortfolio interviews with Ms. Humphries' Grade 10 English class.

Here is what you do:
1. Log on to http://sd8learns.sd8.bc.ca  (Forgot password? Reset with your email)
2. Add a new POST titled "Virtual World"
3. Go to Desktop SHARED folder. Find SD8VLC Survivor.
4. Follow INSTRUCTIONS on Reflection Sheet. Copy Questions to your POST.
5. Use your RUBRIC and respond to prompts. Add a SCREENSHOT of you TEAM BUILD as evidence. (you will have to crop it in PAINT)


 
2. ePortfolio Interviews are 30 minutes in the Library.

Apples Wednesday, May 15th

Hi Apples,

You have two parts to the class today:
1. ePortfolios (Getting Ready for Conferencing next week) 40 minutes
     a. Add your Digital Story and Digital Story Reflection (see desktop shared folder
         "Digital Story" for Rubric and Reflection Template)
     b. See your ePortfolio Planning Sheet (in your brown folders).
          Add another Post with evidence of  Extra-Curricular or School Assignments.
          Photos or images really help! Say something about   your learning: What it is,
          What I learned/am learning, Why is this good evidence?

     c.  Try play with your Theme or Header/Background to customize your look.

*Bring your binders and take out assignments, tests, and projects to add to your Brown Folder!

2. Career Packet:
     a. Today, we'll begin doing some Career Research. Work through the packet, and do some basic
         Research on a potential Career. We will be adding this information to your eportfolio.
      b. Complete as much of the packet as possible, and use the Lab for Researching a career.

3. Virtual World Project: Teen DreamWorld
*Choose one of the options below and begin exploring it.
     a. Photography: Take an original photograph using your cellphone, iPod, or school camera.
         (Notes: We only have one school camera, so must sign out). Begin thinking of a theme for
         your photos: Nature, Objects, or People.
                i. Step One: Find inspiration photos on Morguefile.org and Post to your ePortfolio-->
                   say  what you like about how the photo is taken.
                ii. Step Two: Take several photos and edit with Photoshop

      b. Videography: Plan a short script (no more than 5 minutes) on any of the following:
           Book Trailer, Movie Trailer, Sports Action Video. Storyboard your script.

       c. Virtual World Design: Think of a hobby or interest and create a building or scene that
            reflects your interests. The design must show some research: AutoMechanics, Skateboarding,
            Animal Shelter, etc.

May 7th - 10th ePortfolios!

This week in Digital Literacy:


1. Set up ePortfolios in http://sd8learns.sd8.bc.ca
  •      Set up privacy settings
  •      Add parent emails as Subscribers 
    • Go to your Dashboard
    • Find "Users"
    • Find "Blog and User Creator"
    • Add parent or guardian--> need their email address
  •      Add your Digital Story and 2-3 other pieces of evidence (school and personal)
    • Use your ePortfolio Planning Sheet as a Guide!
  •      Paper Portfolio Folder--add assignments (Humanities, Math)
  •      Got an ipod/iphone? Get the Wordpress App and add photos/content directly to your eportfolio!
2. Digital Stories
  •      Peer and Self-Assess (have two other people see it) using the Rubric (comments on back)
  •      Not done? We will take 15 minutes at Break to work on it
  •      Upload to mtsentlmc@gmail.com (iPad Youtube Account) and set privacy
  •      Link your Digital Story to your ePortfolio

April 22nd - 25th

Your mid-semester intermediate report cards are complete and will be distributed at the end of the week! You should be proud of your efforts, and if there are any outstanding assignments, you are to complete them to demonstrate your learning.

Apples & Androids (Monday, April 22/Wednesday April 24)
You will be working on your eportfolios today! We will be using http://sd8learns.sd8.bc.ca as our platform. It is secure within our Provincial boundaries. Please review what eportfolios and conferencing are about here.

Follow these steps to get your eport started:
  1. Check your EMAIL for a message from MSSSePortfolios/sd8learns
  2. Click on the link to get to the SD8Learns website for confirmation
  3. Your eportfolio will be a plain website. You can play with THEMES.
  4. Click here and make sure you have the right PRIVACY settings on your eport
  5. Add your Digital Story video link if you have it (using the NEW POST + youtube widget)
Apples: (Thursday, April 25th)
  • SD8VLC --> team debriefs: citizenship, communication (add contacts, whisper)
  • Shelters: Take a Screenshot of the before (paste into paint) and save as "shelter.png"
  • Work on shelter to make it solid, straight, good design!
  • Leave not for your teammates for what you did, and what you'd like to see done! (Google Doc)
  • Reflection!

Androids--> Wildcats TV introduction:
  • Overview of Project, with Rubric (handout) 
  • See examples of segments
  • Come up with segment ideas and timeframe (on your own or in teams)
  • Come up with roles for Production Week
 The remainder of the time will be spent finishing your Digital Stories:
  • Save your powerpoints as jpg slides
  • Open your email, and COMPOSE a message to mtsentlmc@gmail.com
  • Attach your jpg slides and hit SEND
  • Get an iPad, and open the GMAIL--> find your email/slides and tap to download
  • Go to iMovie app, and start a NEW PROJECT, add your jpg slides from camera roll
  • Narrate your story (hit RECORD button)--> don't worry, you can practice and redo (find a quiet place, with permission, in the Library, multipurpose room, counselling centre)
  • We will upload next class
Bruce: you will need a library laptop with Windows Movie Maker on it--> get a usb mic from my office file cabinet and record your story. Save and send to mtsentlmc@gmail.com (after you PUBLISH as a movie file!)

    Complete Orientation Challenge, and brief reflection:

       b. Digital Story Conversation: Planning for your script (handout)

       c. Work Period: Add script to bottom of powerpoint notes;
           only key words on slides!
2. Intro to Wildcats Jr TV:
                                        a. See website page; read over and discuss
                                        b. Review the videos and think about segments for the show
                                        c. Jot down what role you may wish to have, and what segment
                                             you'd like to produce or see happen.
