April 22nd - 25th

Your mid-semester intermediate report cards are complete and will be distributed at the end of the week! You should be proud of your efforts, and if there are any outstanding assignments, you are to complete them to demonstrate your learning.

Apples & Androids (Monday, April 22/Wednesday April 24)
You will be working on your eportfolios today! We will be using http://sd8learns.sd8.bc.ca as our platform. It is secure within our Provincial boundaries. Please review what eportfolios and conferencing are about here.

Follow these steps to get your eport started:
  1. Check your EMAIL for a message from MSSSePortfolios/sd8learns
  2. Click on the link to get to the SD8Learns website for confirmation
  3. Your eportfolio will be a plain website. You can play with THEMES.
  4. Click here and make sure you have the right PRIVACY settings on your eport
  5. Add your Digital Story video link if you have it (using the NEW POST + youtube widget)
Apples: (Thursday, April 25th)
  • SD8VLC --> team debriefs: citizenship, communication (add contacts, whisper)
  • Shelters: Take a Screenshot of the before (paste into paint) and save as "shelter.png"
  • Work on shelter to make it solid, straight, good design!
  • Leave not for your teammates for what you did, and what you'd like to see done! (Google Doc)
  • Reflection!

Androids--> Wildcats TV introduction:
  • Overview of Project, with Rubric (handout) 
  • See examples of segments
  • Come up with segment ideas and timeframe (on your own or in teams)
  • Come up with roles for Production Week
 The remainder of the time will be spent finishing your Digital Stories:
  • Save your powerpoints as jpg slides
  • Open your email, and COMPOSE a message to mtsentlmc@gmail.com
  • Attach your jpg slides and hit SEND
  • Get an iPad, and open the GMAIL--> find your email/slides and tap to download
  • Go to iMovie app, and start a NEW PROJECT, add your jpg slides from camera roll
  • Narrate your story (hit RECORD button)--> don't worry, you can practice and redo (find a quiet place, with permission, in the Library, multipurpose room, counselling centre)
  • We will upload next class
Bruce: you will need a library laptop with Windows Movie Maker on it--> get a usb mic from my office file cabinet and record your story. Save and send to mtsentlmc@gmail.com (after you PUBLISH as a movie file!)

Term End Week April 15th - 19th

1. Androids:

  • Finish Digital Story (see criteria)
    • use iPads to use iMovie to make your story
    • upload to youtube and set privacy settings
    • upload to your eportfolio
    • self-assess using rubric 
  • Self-Assessment for Term End
  • Any outstanding assignments? (Digital Poster, Photoshop Quiz)
2. Apples:
  • SD8VLC Survivor with Trafalgar teammates 9:05 - 9:35 am in world
  • Major Team Challenge is to continue building a TEAM Shelter--you are LEADERS
    • go to Gathering Place to watch INTRO VIDEO
    • Focus Skills = COMMUNICATION & TEAMWORK
  • See instructions and feedback in world--> when done, do DAILY POLL
  • Rest of Class: Digital Story and Term Self-Assessment

April 8th - 12th

Term End is this coming Friday, April 12th!

Digital Story Resources:

Apples (Monday April 8th, Wednesday April 10th)
1. Digital Story: Should have slides exported as .jpg set/send to mtsentlmc@gmail.com / use iPad to record your narration/ export movie to youtube (privacy settings!). Will be embedding into your eportfolio. Handout Digital Story Rubric. Use your Checklist to see what you're missing!

2. SD8VLC Survivor: Ms. Malloff will outline Project on projector; please complete this brief online survey here. Next, Log ons! Come up with Digital Citizenship guidelines:
  • How would you expect to interact in the world?
  • What are some ways to navigate and communicate?
  • What should you be mindful of?
    Complete Orientation Challenge, and brief reflection:
  • How did it go? Explain what happened.
  • What was challenging? What skills did you need to complete the challenge?
  • What went well for you?
2. SD8Learns ePortfolio set up in http://sd8learns.sd8.bc.ca : Change theme, header, and sub-title. You will need to provide Ms. Malloff with your gmail account here.

Androids (Tuesday, April 9th and Friday April 12th)
1. Review Photoshop and complete online Photoshop quiz here /10 marks. See Ms. Malloff for your username and passcode.

DigLit April 2nd-5th

Welcome back! Hope you all had a great Easter holiday!

This week, we're working on our Digital Stories (due next Friday, April 12th).

We also have our eportfolios and major projects to consider...

Tuesday/Thursday April 2nd and April 4th -- P2 (Androids):

1. Digital Story:
       a. Checklist for Slides--where are you at? Due April 12th
       b. Digital Story Conversation: Planning for your script (handout)

       c. Work Period: Add script to bottom of powerpoint notes;
           only key words on slides!
2. Intro to Wildcats Jr TV:
                                        a. See website page; read over and discuss
                                        b. Review the videos and think about segments for the show
                                        c. Jot down what role you may wish to have, and what segment
                                             you'd like to produce or see happen.
